LAHORE, Oct 23 (APP): Lahore once again ranked as the most polluted city in the world on Thursday, with an overall air pollution level recorded at 253 AQI, while the AQI was recorded at 485 in the Barki Road area of Lahore before 7 am.
Lahore’s air is still polluted and unhealthy, as the provincial capital has come first among the most polluted cities in the world.
Along with Lahore, the air in other cities of Punjab is also extremely unhealthy.
The Indian capital New Delhi is second in the list of the most polluted cities in the world, while the Iraqi capital Baghdad is third.
Karachi is fourth in the air quality index with an AQI of 181, while the Indian city of Kolkata is fifth.
Due to smog and hazardous air quality, residents in Lahore have been advised to avoid going outdoors unless absolutely necessary.
Experts have warned that exposure to such high pollution levels can lead to severe health issues, including respiratory diseases, cardiovascular conditions, cancer, and even premature death. Both outdoor and indoor air pollution are linked to a wide range of harmful health outcomes, affecting lung development, cognitive abilities, and life expectancy.
Additionally, experts noted that due to low morning temperatures, polluted particles remain suspended in the air for extended periods. To counter this, anti-smog guns will be deployed in areas with the highest pollution levels.
