KARACHI, Feb 24 (APP):The first meeting of the Academic Council for the year 2026 was held at the University of Karachi (KU) on Tuesday under the chairmanship of its Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi.
The meeting was held at the KU’s Chinese Teachers Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday.
The members discussed the letter of the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, regarding the inclusion of a mandatory three-credit-hour course on artificial intelligence in all degree programs in detail.
The House was informed that the said proposal would be introduced in the academic session of 2027 and constituted a six-member committee to prepare recommendations regarding the HEC Islamabad directives, which will be headed by Professor Dr Sadiq Ali Khan, and members are Professor Nasir Iqbal, Professor Dr Najeeb Alam, Dr Amena Zehra, Professor Dr Rumana Zaheer, and Professor Dr Naima Saeed.
The Committee will present its recommendations for approval at the next Academic Council meeting.
Furthermore, the House accepted the request received from the Principal of the Rana Liaquat Ali Khan Government College of Home Economics, regarding their degrees’ titles.
The Academic Council meeting also approved the minutes of the Academic Council meeting held on November 24, 2025, as well as the minutes of the Equivalence Committee meeting held on January 22, 2026.
