KARACHI, Nov 03 (APP):Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi Monday distributed scholarships cheques among 55 students of various departments on Monday.
The scholarship was arranged by the University of Karachi Houston Alumni Association (UKAHA) worth over Rs2.5 million.
Addressing a ceremony held at the Karachi University Business School (KUBS) for the distribution of scholarship cheques to 45 students from 20 departments and 10 students from KUBS, the KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi emphasized that in light of the country’s current economic challenges and rising inflation, scholarships offer vital relief to students whose families struggle to bear the cost of higher education.
He noted that for many parents, providing quality education to their children is becoming an increasingly distant dream. He expressed his gratitude to the UKAHA, praising their generous scholarship contributions as commendable and a positive investment in Pakistan’s future.
Speaking to the students, the KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi remarked that today, someone else has stepped forward to support your educational journey. We hope that tomorrow, you will be the ones to support someone else’s.
According to UKAHA representative Feroz Iqbal, the aim of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to talented students in need, ensuring continuity in their education. The first installment of the scholarship was distributed during the ceremony.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the UKAHA has pledged approximately Rs10 million to support 10 students for the KUBS for their four-year BBA degree program.
He added that this initiative reflects the UKAHA’s strong dedication to promoting higher education and strengthening alumni connections between Pakistan and the United States.
Dean of the Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences Professor Dr Zaeema Israr Mohiuddin stated that many students wish to continue their education but are hindered by financial constraints. She observed that in such cases, scholarships help turn their dreams into reality.
The in-charge of the Students Financial Aid Office Professor Dr Zi Asma Hanif Khan shared that a total of 300 applications were received for the UKAHA scholarship.
After a thorough review process, 55 students were selected. This initiative brings a new ray of hope to students at the University of Karachi who aspire to pursue higher education despite financial hardships.
