KARACHI, Oct 21 (APP):The University of Karachi and the Bayer Pakistan private limited signed the memorandum of understanding to initiate the cooperation between the KU and Bayer Pakistan to promote agricultural development and to introduce high quality seeds, biotech traits and crop protection products.
The MoU documents were inked at the VC Secretariat on Tuesday. The KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and Managing Director, CEO, Bayer Pakistan Pvt Ltd Ahmed Ali signed the MoU documents.
On this occasion, Ahmed Ali informed the audience that with effective support from the KU, Bayer’s biotech traits in different crops for use as food, feed, and processing and cultivation to tremendously improve agricultural productivity, food security as well as deliver benefits to farmers and the general public in Pakistan.
He mentioned that Bayer is a leading global provider of technology-based tools and agricultural products that improve farm productivity and food quality, and would like to avail the expertise of the KU which is a premium public academic institution in every field including agricultural and other sciences.
According to him, this MoU will help in evaluating, developing and implementing practical solutions to enhance agricultural productivity in Pakistan, including joint research projects.
Ahmed Ali said that with this MoU, both parties will be able to enhance overall acceptance of products of modern biotechnology, nematology, pesticides and bio-pesticides in Pakistan, to the benefit of Pakistan’s agricultural producers, consumers, and others.
The KU’s Director of Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization Dr Syeda Hoor ul Ain shared that this MoU will surely established a framework for collaborative research between the Institute of Environmental Studies, Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness Management, Department of Botany, and National Nematological Research Centre (NNRC) of the University of Karachi, and Bayer Pakistan Private Limited.
She mentioned that the collaboration aims to promote interdisciplinary research, innovation, and knowledge exchange in the fields of sustainable agriculture, environmental protection, plant sciences, and nematology.
The faculty members from departments of botany, agriculture and agribusiness management, Institute of Environment Studies and NNRC along with Murtaza Quddusi, Muhammad Asim, Hafsa and others were also present during the MoU signing ceremony.
