PESHAWAR, Oct 23 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW) has urged the provincial government to ensure the meaningful inclusion of women in “Khyber Aman Jirga,” emphasizing that their participation in peace and policy discussions is a constitutional and legal right.
The jirga, scheduled for October 25 in Bara, Khyber district will be chaired by Chief Minister Suhail Afridi.
In an official statement issued on Thursday, the Commission stressed that Article 25(2) of the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees equal opportunities for all citizens, while Section 6(b) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women Empowerment Act 2016 mandates women’s participation in policymaking processes.
The Commission called upon the district administration and relevant authorities to include women from civil society in the jirga, ensuring their voices are represented in matters of peace and development.
Reiterating its stance, the Commission said that inclusive dialogue is vital for effective governance and long-term stability in the region.
