PESHAWAR, Jan 21 (APP):The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KP) Assembly Secretariat has officially published the KP Universities (Amendment) Act, 2024 in the extraordinary issue of the provincial gazette.
The Act was passed by the Provincial Assembly on December 6, 2024, and received the Governor’s assent on December 23, 2024.
Under the act, the Chief Minister would be the chancellor of the public sector universities from now onward rather the governor.
A notification, dated January 21, 2025, declared the Act as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Act No. XXV of 2024, marking it as an official law of the province.
The amended legislation would introduce key reforms and adjustments to the governance and administration of universities in KP.
The Provincial Assembly Secretariat forwarded copies of the notification to relevant authorities, including the Principal Secretary to the Governor, the Law Department, and the Higher Education, Archives, and Libraries Department.
The Director of Information and the Additional IT Director of the Provincial Assembly have also been instructed to make the Act available on official platforms for public access.
The notification also directed the Government Stationery and Printing Department to publish and distribute copies of the Act promptly.
The Secretariat emphasized that all due processes, including proofreading and verification, be completed before distribution.
The KP Universities (Amendment) Act, 2024, was expected to enhance the efficiency and governance of universities across the province, benefiting both students and academic institutions.
