KP moves toward self-sufficiency in energy sector: Shafi

PESHAWAR, Dec 18 (APP): Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan on Thursday said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is swiftly progressing toward self-reliance in the energy sector.
He said that during the current year, the provincial government, through PEDO, completed three hydropower projects with a total capacity of 63 megawatts using its own resources, which will generate an annual income of Rs. 4.4 billion for the provincial government.
In a statement here, Shafi Jan said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, the provincial government is ahead of other provinces in governance and development work.
The completed projects are 40.8 MW Kotudair, 11.8 MW Karora Shangla and the 10.2 MW Jabori Mansehra. He further said that work is also underway on small hydropower projects to provide affordable and uninterrupted electricity to local communities.
He also said that work is in progress on laying a 40-kilometer transmission line from Madyan to Matiltan, which will help supply low-cost electricity to industries.
