PESHAWAR, Jul 10 (APP):The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has introduced IT-based Monitoring Mechanism for its Climate Action Plan and Management System (CAPMS), housed within the Department of Climate Change, Environment, Forests, and Wildlife.
Developed with technical assistance from the Sustainable Energy and Economic Development (SEED) programme, the system is designed to monitor progress, strengthen interdepartmental coordination, and generate clear, actionable reports to support informed decision-making.
The IT-based mechanism has been formally inaugurated at a ceremony held at the Civil Secretariat here Thursday.
Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah, presided over the event, which was attended by senior officials from the Environment Department, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other key stakeholders.
The innovative digital mechanism is designed to track progress, enhance interdepartmental coordination, and produce concise, actionable reports to support evidence-based decision-making. It aims to improve the implementation and monitoring of climate-resilient policies across the province.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah underscored the urgency of addressing the climate crisis and called for immediate, coordinated action. He stressed the importance of technology and real-time data in shaping effective policies and ensuring their robust execution.
“The CAPMS is a major step forward in our commitment to climate responsibility. It will not only ensure transparency and accountability but also strengthen our response to environmental challenges,” he remarked.
The system operationalizes the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Climate Change Policy 2022 and aligns with Pakistan’s National Climate Change Policy 2021 and the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
