PESHAWAR, Jan 23 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and tribal leaders on Friday held a Jirga to give industrial zone status to Darra Adam Khel to boost economy and formalize arms industry.
The high-level consultative Jirga held at eagle fort, district Kohat, chaired by Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Alam and attended by Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Motasim Billah Shah, Deputy Commissioner Kohat Rahimullah Mehsud, Managing Director Small Industries Abdul Hameed, officials from the Industries Department, and local tribal elders.
Participants highlighted Darra Adam Khel’s historical commercial importance and its traditional craftsmanship, particularly the world-famous handmade arms industry.
Speakers emphasized the area’s strong potential for industrial development, while tribal elders presented practical proposals for transforming the region into an industrial hub.
Addressing the Jirga, Managing Director Small Industries Abdul Hameed said that granting industrial status to Darra Adam Khel would significantly boost economic activity, create employment opportunities for local youth, and accelerate overall regional development.
Minister Aftab Alam assured the tribal elders of full government support, stating that the KP government was committed to developing Darra Adam Khel as an industrial center and would take concrete measures to achieve this objective.
He said formalizing the arms manufacturing sector would ensure fair market value for locally produced handmade weapons, curb illegal production and trafficking, and open avenues for future exports, thereby strengthening the industry in the long run.
The minister added that the provincial government was actively promoting industrial growth and had directed relevant departments to ensure the timely completion of ongoing and new development projects in Kohat district, including Darra Adam Khel.
