KP govt to provide Rs 3.9 bln as bridge financing for under-construction northern bypass project: CM

PESHAWAR, Jan 01 (APP):An important development took place on Thursday in a meeting regarding the Peshawar Northern Bypass project, chaired by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi.
It was decided in the meeting that the Chief Minister would provide Rs. 3.9 billion as bridge financing for the completion of the under-construction Northern Bypass project.
It was also decided that the provincial government would provide Rs. 1 billion required for the construction of two underpasses and one bridge on the Northern Bypass.
During the meeting, officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA) assured that the project would be completed by June 2026.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi said that due to insufficient funding, the Peshawar Northern Bypass could not be completed since 2010, which has caused delays in development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said that this is a project of public interest, and the provincial government will provide full cooperation for its early completion.
CM KP added that the project will promote commercial activities along with improving travel facilities.
The meeting was given a detailed briefing on the progress made so far. According to the briefing, Rs. 23.5 billion has been spent on the project to date, with overall financial progress at 85.6 percent. Physical progress is 100 percent on package-1, 64 percent on package-2, 86.6 percent on package-3, and 69 percent on package Three-A.
Advisor to the Chief Minister on Finance Muzammil Aslam, a Member of National Highways, the Commissioner Peshawar, and officials from relevant provincial departments attended the meeting.
