KP Food Authority busts nationwide fake milk network

PESHAWAR, Nov 29 (APP):The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority carried out a major late night operation in the Hattar Industrial Zone of Haripur and uncovered a national scale network producing artificial and chemically prepared fake milk.
According to officials the group led by Maqsood Bhatti had shifted its operations to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after being caught in Punjab. A special team working under the direct supervision of the Director General raided the facility and arrested the suspects inside the factory.
Authorities reported that large quantities of chemicals raw materials and heavy machinery were being used to manufacture the artificial milk. Tankers filled with harmful milk were seized and destroyed on the spot.
The illegal setup was secretly supplying Islamabad Rawalpindi and other major cities with nearly one hundred thousand litres of fake milk every day.
The factory was sealed immediately and all machinery was taken into government custody and destroyed within a day.
Three people including the manager were arrested and an FIR was lodged. The district team of the Haripur Food Authority was suspended for negligence.
The provincial government has reiterated its zero tolerance policy against food adulteration vowing that the crackdown on such networks will continue and public health will not be compromised.
