PESHAWAR, Jul 17 (APP):The Office of the Provincial Election Commissioner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday conducted a ballot draw as per the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to allocate one minority reserved seat and one women’s reserved seat in the provincial assembly.
The draw for the minority seat involved Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUIF).
PML-N’s provincial president, Amir Muqam, and JUI-P’s provincial president, Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman, appeared with their respective delegations, including nominated minority candidates Gorsaran Lal and Gopal Singh.
In a significant development, the PML-N delegation submitted a written withdrawal in favor of the JUIF candidate. As a result, JUIF secured an additional minority seat in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
A separate draw was held between the Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTI-P) for a reserved women’s seat.
The ANP delegation was led by Nisar Baz, while PTI-P was represented by Arbab Waseem. Candidates Shahida Waheed (ANP) and Saumi (PTI-P) were also present.
Following the ballot draw, ANP’s candidate Shahida Waheed was declared successful.
The official notification of the successful candidates will be issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan in due course.
