PESHAWAR, Oct 14 (APP): A meeting of the Communication and Works Department was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah, in which a detailed review was conducted of the ongoing good governance initiatives within the department.
The Secretary of C&W and other relevant officials participated in the meeting. A detailed briefing was given on the establishment of a Strategic Planning, Design, and Supervision Unit within the C&W Department.
Preparations for the establishment of the Strategic Planning, Design, and Supervision Unit (SPDSU) have been completed.
This unit aims to enhance technical expertise, improve the quality of work, and strengthen planning processes.
The meeting was informed that the primary objectives of this unit are to promote transparency, reduce project costs, and ensure the use of modern technology.
The establishment of the unit is one of the priorities of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and forms a part of the Good Governance Roadmap goals. During the meeting, various options for setting up the unit were discussed in detail.
It was further informed that work is underway to introduce light gauge structures in construction projects so that projects can be completed at lower costs and in less time.
Initially, eight schools in five districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been identified to be built using this method. These schools will be completed in one-third of the time and will remain durable for up to fifty years.
Moreover, the C&W Department has completed the transition to 100% e-pads, and now the system for bid submission, call deposits, and project analysis will be entirely online. This e-procurement system is aimed at ensuring transparency.
The Road Asset Management System has also been activated in the C&W Department for the inspection and analysis of roads.
Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa emphasized that the use of modern technology in construction is essential to meet the demands of the current era.
The implementation of good governance initiatives in the C&W Department will significantly improve the department’s overall performance.
