PESHAWAR, Dec 16 (APP):Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Information, Shafee Jan, on Tuesday paid rich tribute to the martyrs of the Army Public School (APS) tragedy, terming it an unforgettable and deeply tragic chapter in the national history.
In a statement issued from his office on the completion of eleven years of the APS tragedy, Shafee Jan said that although eleven years have passed since the horrific incident of December 16, the wounds it inflicted are still fresh in the hearts of the entire nation.
He said that on this day, innocent students, teachers and other staff members sacrificed their lives.
He stated that the provincial government stands shoulder to shoulder with the bereaved families of the martyrs even today and fully shares their grief and sorrow.
He recalled that terrorists had crossed all limits of brutality by targeting the future of the nation at Army Public School, adding that it is a tragedy that can neither be forgotten nor its impact erased.
Shafee Jan said that the APS tragedy united the entire nation and further strengthened the collective resolve against terrorism.
He emphasized that belief in the power of the pen over the gun is a national commitment and that both the government and the nation are united in eliminating terrorism.
He further said that the provincial government is utilizing all available resources to ensure lasting peace.
He added that Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Suhail Afridi, convened the “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Aman Jirga” for the establishment of peace in the province, in which all political parties and stakeholders unanimously adopted a 15-point declaration.
Shafee Jan reiterated that the establishment of peace and the protection of the life and property of the people remain the top priority of the provincial government.
