KP CM inaugurates IHS at University of Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Jan 09 (APP):Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, on Thursday inaugurated the newly established Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) under the University of Peshawar.
The inauguration took place during his visit to the institute said a statement issued here by the CM Secretariat.
Provincial Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi, officials from the Higher Education Department, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peshawar, and other relevant personnel accompanied him.
During the visit, a briefing was provided, highlighting that the institute offers BS degree programs in seven disciplines, including Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiology, Cardiology, Dental Technology, Surgical Technology, Optometry, and Emergency Services.
The briefing also revealed plans to expand the academic programs to include BS Nursing and other health technologies in the future.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, CM Gandapur expressed his satisfaction and delight over the institute’s establishment.
He termed it a significant step towards making public universities financially sustainable and aligning them with long-term development goals.
He commended the university administration for the swift establishment of the institute and expressed hope that it would achieve its objectives effectively.
The CM emphasized that the institute would play a critical role in addressing the shortage of skilled professionals in the healthcare sector, enhancing the healthcare system while also contributing to the university’s financial needs.
Highlighting the provincial government’s development vision, he noted efforts to decentralize power to improve service delivery.
He announced the establishment of a fund to pay off provincial debt, with Rs 30 billion already allocated.
The CM reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing quality healthcare and education, and to launching market-relevant courses in other universities as well.
“We are investing in our youth and transforming them into valuable assets for the nation. Pakistan is brimming with talent, and it is imperative to harness it effectively,” Gandapur said.
He also announced resolving the longstanding issue of promotions for Peshawar University’s faculty members as a priority.
