PESHAWAR, Nov 01 (APP): Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi expressed anger over significant delays in Rural Economic Transformation Project (RETP) during a review meeting here on Saturday.
Terming the delays “unacceptable,” Chief Minister directed concerned authorities to immediately streamline the project and warned that no negligence or omission will be tolerated.
This project has potential to change destiny of poor, Afridi stated, emphasizing need for strict adherence to timelines and procedures. He demanded 100 percent merit and complete transparency, ensuring the transparent use of every rupee.
The Rs 30 billion, seven-year project is designed to stabilize the provincial economy, create new employment, and build a sustainable agricultural sector. It is expected to benefit over 4.3 million people in rural areas.
During the briefing, officials outlined the project’s details. It was being implemented with support from International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD). The funding structure includes IFAD 58%, Provincial Government: 16%, while beneficiary contribution is 26%.
The project focuses on agribusiness, skills development, and policy support. Key targets include establishing 550 professional farmer organizations and providing skills training to 60,000 youth. To date, 20,000 young people have completed their training.
The Chief Minister concluded by calling the project a “milestone for prosperity, self-reliance, and sustainable development” for the province’s rural communities.
