PESHAWAR, Oct 12 (APP): The candidates from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) have submitted their nomination papers for the election of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa likely on Monday.
According to KP Assembly secretariat, the deadline to submit nomination papers for the election of the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has now passed and PTI, PML-N, PPP, and JUI-F have all submitted their candidates.
PTI has nominated Sohail Afridi, PML-N has put forward Sardar Shah Jehan Yousaf, JUI-F’s candidate is Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman, and PPP has nominated Arbab Zarak.
All candidates submitted their nomination papers to the Secretary of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
The Awami National Party (ANP) did not submit any nomination papers. ANP spokesperson Engineer Ihsanullah said that the party hinted that his party will not participate in tomorrow’s assembly session for the Chief Minister’s election.
Engineer Ihsanullah added that ANP will not be part of any horse-trading, nor does the party support PTI’s nominated candidate Sohail Afridi.
On the other hand, opposition parties have raised questions over the new Chief Minister’s election, as the Governor has not yet accepted the resignation of Ali Amin Gandapur.
In this regard, JUI-F’s parliamentary leader and Chief Minister candidate Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman said that since the Governor has not accepted the resignation, the election process is unconstitutional.
However, he emphasized that fielding a candidate is their democratic right and that the opposition will bring a consensus candidate.
PML-N MNA and Federal Minister Amir Muqam said that the Governor has received the resignation and will process it according to the law. He questioned what PTI is afraid of opposition parties.
Amir Muqam further said that PTI is trying to make the matter controversial, and if the resignation process of one Chief Minister isn’t complete, how can another one be elected?
