PESHAWAR, Jul 10 (APP):The provincial task force for polio eradication meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary was held at the Civil Secretariat on Wednesday.
At the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Home, administrative secretaries, Director General Information, police officers, Coordinator EOC, UNICEF and relevant officials including representatives of the World Health Organization were present while officials of National Emergency Operations Center, Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners were also presented through video link.
Special Secretary Health and Coordinator Provincial Emergency Operations Center while briefing the meeting said that four polio cases were reported in the province last year while no cases have been reported this year but this year environmental samples of polio have been found positive in different districts of the province.
The meeting was told that in the months of June and July this year, complete and partial anti-polio campaigns were conducted in different districts of the province and the targets were ensured.
During the meeting, details were shared on the problems and difficulties faced during the polio eradication, including monitoring procedures.
Presiding over the meeting, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nadeem Aslam directed the relevant authorities that any problem encountered in the polio campaigns should be resolved by utilizing available resources and better coordination to be ensured to overcome the problems. He stressed that for the complete eradication of polio virus, it was necessary to address the obstacles in this regard.
The Chief Secretary also issued instructions to speed up the measures for the eradication of polio and make the implementation of SOPs stricter. The Chief Secretary said that for better decision-making, the data related to polio campaigns should be complete and accurate in all respects and in this context, scientific-based measures and technology should be used to the maximum.
The Chief Secretary directed the commissioners and deputy commissioners to focus on resolving the problems in the districts on priority basis and take strict action against the inefficient officials. The meeting also paid tribute to the services and sacrifices of the law enforcement officials and polio workers in the line of duty for polio eradication.
