PESHAWAR, Dec 29 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved a supplementary grant of Rs 3,825 million for the Safe Cities Project.
The grant was approved during a meeting of the provincial cabinet held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, in which various development and educational programs were also approved.
After the meeting, while briefing the media, Special Assistant for Information, Shafi Jan, said that a supplementary grant of Rs 3,825 million was also approved for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Safe Cities Project.
In the second phase of the Safe City project, which began in Peshawar, four additional districts have been included, namely Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and North Waziristan.
He said more than 80 percent of work on some targets of the Safe City Project and over 50 percent on others has been completed, which will help strengthen the security and urban safety system in the province.
He said the meeting also approved a grant of Rs. 25 million for the Pakistan Population Summit 2025, as well as the purchase of vehicles for the Peshawar High Court and District and Sessions Judges.
Under the Good Governance Roadmap, Rs 207 million has been allocated for the Ehsaas Education Internship Program, which will be a three-year project. Under this program, 850 talented youth will be provided internships each year to promote various fields of education.
The meeting also approved the recruitment of school leaders on a contract basis, under which 1,144 school leaders, appointed for three years, will be given another opportunity.
He said that approval has also been granted for an inquiry into the killing of martyrs in an alleged police encounter in Swat.
He said that the cabinet did not approve any funds for operations, but arrangements will be made if required and in case of the displacement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The Special Assistant for Information further said that the cabinet has decided that those who wish to return to Afghanistan will be provided fare and sent back with dignity.
