PESHAWAR, Feb 10 (APP): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has boosted efforts to ensure the safety and protection of female students in universities across the province and has issued an important set of guidelines in this regard.
According to an official notification on Tuesday, strict codes of conduct regarding student interactions have been directed to be implemented in all universities. The university administrations have also been given instructions to ensure immediate resolution of complaints raised by female students.
The notification further states that awareness seminars against harassment have been declared mandatory in all public sector universities.
On the directives of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an inquiry committee has also been formed to investigate the harassment case reported at the University of Peshawar.
The official letter emphasizes that universities must organize at least quarterly workshops every year to educate students about the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act 2010 and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) policy regarding harassment prevention.
The Chief Minister has ordered all universities to ensure immediate implementation of these instructions and sought reports from all institutions. It has also been directed that the Higher Education Department must regularly be provided with detailed progress reports.
