PESHAWAR, Oct 13 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly speaker Babar Saleem Swati here Monday ruled that Ali Amin Gandapur has tendered resignations twice as a Chief Minister Khyber through letters dispatched to the Governor House Peshawar and now again at floor of KP Assembly and therefore his resignation was accepted.
Following the opposition leader Dr Ibadullah Khan address at floor of the house, Speaker Babar Saleem Swati said that Ali Amin Gandapur had submitted his resignation to the Governor twice and also announced it in the House today, therefore his resignation was genuine and legal.
“Some people don’t want Sohail Afridi to become Chief Minister, but the Constitution does not work according to people’s wishes. We will proceed according to the Constitution,” he said.
Reading out a ruling, the Speaker said that the procedure for electing the new Leader of the House will follow the Constitution, after which the name of the elected Chief Minister will be announced.
Earlier, the session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly for electing a new Chief Minister is ongoing in the Assembly.
The session, chaired by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, began with a speech from Ali Amin Gandapur, who said that he resigned on the directives of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Gandapur said that when he took over the government, we had only 18 days’ worth of salaries in the treasury and today, we have 218 billion rupees in Govt kitty.
He said the opposition may complain that he didn’t give them funds, but the public is happy because his Govt spent the money on them.
Earlier, during Dr. Ibadullah’s speech, there was an uproar in the assembly gallery. The Speaker addressed those in the gallery, warning them that If they don’t remain silent, he will be forced to suspend the proceedings and have them removed.
Four candidates are contesting for the position of Chief Minister. PTI has nominated Sohail Afridi, while JUI-F has nominated Maulana Lutfur Rehman. PML-N has nominated Sardar Shah Jahan Yousaf, and PPP nominated Arbab Zarak Khan.
The total number of members in the KP Assembly is 145, with 93 from the government side and 52 from the opposition.
Governor of KP, Faisal Karim Kundi, returned Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation, citing issues with signature discrepancies, and has summoned him personally to the Governor’s House on October 15.
PTI has taken oaths from its KP Assembly members to vote for Sohail Afridi. Yesterday, PTI KP President Junaid Akbar warned that anyone betraying the party founder’s nominated candidate would face severe backlash from the people and would find it difficult to move around freely in the province.
