KARACHI, Nov 01 (APP): The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on the directives of Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab has successfully reclaimed five acres of prime commercial land in Orangi Town, valued at more than Rs. 1 billion.
This decisive action marks another significant step toward protecting the city’s valuable assets and ensuring that public land is utilized strictly in accordance with municipal laws, a communique said
The land in question was originally leased for the establishment of a hospital; however, it was being misused for unauthorized purposes, including the operation of schools, auditoriums, canteens, and other commercial activities all in clear violation of the lease agreement.
Following the Mayor’s firm commitment to recover encroached and misused municipal properties, KMC had previously initiated the cancellation of over 500 plots under the Orangi Township Project. After the completion of due departmental procedures, formal cancellation of this five-acre prime land was approved.
A comprehensive operation was subsequently carried out by KMC’s Orangi Township Department with the support of the district administration and law enforcement agencies, under the supervision of Project Director Faisal Rizvi. The teams successfully sealed the premises, except for a small section still functioning as a hospital to accommodate patients currently under treatment. The remaining portion will be secured once the patients are discharged to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab appreciated the coordinated efforts of KMC officials and the district administration and emphasized that no misuse of public property will be tolerated. He reiterated that every inch of Karachi’s municipal land belongs to its citizens and will be protected, recovered, and used only for the public good.
He further stated that KMC’s ongoing operations to retrieve encroached and illegally utilized land will continue with full momentum and transparency. “Our mission is to ensure that Karachi’s assets serve the people of Karachi — not private interests,” the Mayor added.
