KHANEWAL, Jul 08 (APP):In line with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision to transform South Punjab into a region of beauty and modern urban design, development work on upgrading major cities is gaining rapid momentum.
As part of this ambitious initiative, a comprehensive plan has been initiated to convert four major marketplaces of the city into model pedestrian bazaars. The project will cover Akbar Bazaar, Kutchery Bazaar, Jannat Road and Jamia Masjid Road, all of which will be declared vehicle free zones to ensure a more pleasant and accessible shopping experience for citizens.
During a briefing in Multan, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) South Punjab, Fuad Hashim Rabbani, was updated on the details by Deputy Commissioner Khanewal, Dr. Salma Suleman.
Additional IGP South Punjab, Mr. Muhammad Kamran Khan, DPO Ismail Kharrak and others praised the initiative.
It was disclosed in the briefing, the markets will feature dedicated parking areas and umbrella-covered seating spaces for visitors, along with food courts offering local and international cuisine. All electrical infrastructure will be moved underground to enhance both safety and aesthetics.
The model markets will also include eight entry gates, making access easier and more organized. Hydraulic speed breakers will be installed on surrounding roads to control traffic flow, while visually appealing trees and large planters will line the streets to create a vibrant and green environment. Uniform branding will also be introduced for all vendors and stalls.
To further enhance the pedestrian experience, citizens will have access to golf carts to move around the market areas comfortably.
“This project is a gift from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to the people of Khanewal,” the ACS said, adding that encroachments have been removed, making the city roads wider and more accessible”, he added.
He maintained that the transformation of these markets is a key step in broader mission to beautify every city in South Punjab.
