KARACHI, Nov 18 (APP):Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Monday said that the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD) is being modernized to provide priority healthcare facilities to citizens for the treatment of heart diseases.
He expressed these views while visiting the KIHD and the Institute of Health Sciences (Nursing). During the visit, administrative officials, doctors, and other individuals from KIHD were also present.
He said that efforts will be made to address the shortage of doctors and paramedical staff at the hospital, ensuring timely and better medical care for patients.
He added that 100 percent scholarships are being provided to young individuals for standard and advanced nursing training at the Institute of Health Sciences established within the KIHD. Efforts will also be made to establish similar nursing institutes at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Orangi Town, he added.
He said that these initiatives will not only improve health care services for citizens but will also enhance the performance of doctors and other staff in hospitals, ultimately restoring public trust in these institutions.
Barrister Murtaza Wahab inspected various departments of the KIHD, including the emergency ward, and instructed that the best possible facilities be provided for heart patients.
He also interacted with patients and inquired about the services they were receiving.
On this occasion, the Executive Director of KIHD, Professor Dr.Rifaat, briefed the Mayor, explaining that due to the modern facilities, nearly all cardiac procedures are now being carried out at the hospital with exceptional support.
The hospital has also started implanting permanent pacemakers after a 12-year gap, and currently, all cardiac procedures at KIHD, including elective PCI, primary PCI, angiography, and non-invasive departments, are fully operational, he added.
The Mayor Karachi said that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is doing its best to provide better medical services to citizens within its available resources. The KIHD has been connected to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) via satellite, and further steps will be taken in the future to ensure that heart patients receive prompt and top-quality medical care.
During his visit to the nursing school established at KIHD, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab instructed that young individuals undergoing training at the nursing institute should be kept updated with the latest global research and advancements in nursing.
He emphasized the importance of providing the best practical training to equip them to serve in KMC and other medical institutions under the management of Karachi’s healthcare system.
