KARACHI, Jul 22 (APP):Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi on Monday chaired a meeting at his office to launch a tree plantation campaign aimed at enhancing the city’s green cover.
The campaign, set to commence in the next two weeks, targets planting 140,000 trees in collaboration with the forest department, municipal corporations, and private organizations.
Deputy Commissioners (DCs) will make arrangements to plant 10,000 trees in their respective districts with the help of private, municipal, and industrial organizations, said a press release.
Commissioner Naqvi emphasized the importance of collective efforts to ensure the campaign’s success. The initiative aims to bolster Karachi’s environment and support government initiatives addressing environmental issues.
The meeting was attended by representatives of various organizations, including the forest department, Karachi municipal corporation, cantonment boards, DHA, LDA, KDA, Port Qasim Authority, Town Administrations, ABAD SITE Limited and Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
The Commissioner’s office, in coordination with DCs and other stakeholders, has begun identifying suitable locations for tree plantation, focusing on environmentally friendly species and excluding harmful plants. This campaign not only aims to enhance Karachi’s environmental landscape but also aims to beautify the city’s roads, parks, green belts, and other public spaces.
