LAHORE, Jul 03 (APP):The initial investigation report into the tragic incident of the roof collapse of a tuition center in the Kahna area has been sent to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
According to the report, the incident occurred due to excessive amount of soil/debris being poured on the roof and the already weak structure.
The opinion of experts has also been made part of the report, who stated that pouring soil on the weak roof of the TR girder in the presence of children was a highly irresponsible move. The weak structure could not bear the additional load, resulting in the roof collapsing.
A female teacher and about 20 children were present in the tuition center at the time of the accident. It has been confirmed that 14 children died while 6 children were injured in the incident. Most of the deaths were due to severe head injuries.
The report states that no negligence on the part of any government official has been proven so far, however, five people, including the owner of the house and his brother, have been taken into custody after the incident and a case has been registered while investigation is underway.
The Punjab Chief Minister has directed a close review of the report and has indicated that safety SOPs for tuition centers across the province will be further tightened.
