LAHORE, Nov 09 (APP): On the occasion of Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s 148th birth anniversary, intellectuals and leaders paid heartfelt tribute to the Poet of the East, acknowledging his unparalleled legacy as a philosopher, thinker, and visionary leader whose ideas continue to inspire generations. Iqbal’s message remains a beacon of hope, guiding the Muslim community and the nation as a whole.
Through his poetry and political acumen, Iqbal awakened the Muslims of the Subcontinent, particularly through his famous 1930 Allahabad address, where he first presented the idea of Pakistan. Renowned educationist Professor Dr. Fakhar-ul-Haq Noori emphasized that this speech gave Muslims a clear direction and identity, ultimately leading to the creation of Pakistan.
A Change of Guard ceremony was held at the Mazar-e-Iqbal in Lahore to honor his memory. Born on November 9, 1877, in Sialkot, Iqbal’s life journey took him from early education in Sialkot to higher studies in Europe, where he earned a law degree in England and a PhD in philosophy from Germany. He returned to Lahore as a teacher, poet, and political activist, contributing greatly to the independence movement. In 1922, he was knighted by the British government for his services.
Although Iqbal passed away in 1938 before Pakistan’s independence, his vision laid the foundation for the nation’s creation. His poetry, which has been translated into multiple languages, continues to inspire people worldwide, offering a call for self-realization and unity.
Noted thinker Professor Dr. Asif Awan highlighted Iqbal’s emphasis on Khudi (selfhood), the pursuit of education, and the development of courage and self-reliance. Iqbal believed in empowering youth to be physically, intellectually, and spiritually strong, shaping their own destiny.
On Iqbal Day, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Senator Rubina Khalid paid tribute to Iqbal’s immense contributions, describing him as a visionary whose philosophy of dignity, self-respect, and justice continues to guide the nation. She emphasized that Iqbal’s message transcends generations and remains vital for building a just, prosperous, and united Pakistan.
This day serves as a reminder to uphold Iqbal’s ideals and work towards a society that reflects his values of unity, strength, and justice, ensuring his legacy endures for generations to come.
