PESHAWAR, Nov 23 (APP):International Children’s Day was celebrated at the Khyber Institute of Child Health & Children Hospital (KICH) here Sunday, wherein representatives from the Pakistan Paediatric Association (PPA), paediatric specialists, UNICEF officials and officers from the provincial health department participated.
The event aimed to highlight the importance of children’s rights and emphasize that access to play, recreation and quality education is essential for the healthy development and bright future of every child.
Children from the Save-Our-Souls (SOS) School also took part in the ceremony. The participants stressed the need to open the Khyber Institute of Child Health & Children Hospital at the earliest for the benefit of the public.
Project Director Professor Dr. Amjad Mahboob stated that 95% of the hospital’s construction and technical work has been completed, while the remaining work will be finalized within the next two months, making a long-delayed project available for public service. This facility is not only a state-of-the-art children’s hospital but also a research center, he added.
Dr. Amjad Mahboob further explained that this will be the first specialized children’s hospital at the government level after tertiary care facility where treatment for all major childhood diseases will be provided. He said that despite a 20-year delay due to various reasons, the project is now in its final stages.
He said that essential medical equipment has already arrived, while the remaining equipment is in the process of delivery and installation. Arrangements for hospital beds have also been completed, and all technical and civil works, including the oxygen system and central cooling system are fully functional.
He added that the hospital will not only provide healthcare services for children but will also serve as a training hub for doctors and healthcare workers, enabling them to serve effectively in other districts of the province.
