RAWALPINDI, Jun 18 (APP): Federal Secretary for Interior Captain (R) Khurram Agha has directed to resolve long-standing issues between Islamabad and Rawalpindi through joint efforts. He emphasized enhanced collaboration between the administrations of the twin cities for immediate resolution of bilateral matters.
During a high-level meeting which was jointly chaired along with Commissioner Rawalpindi, Engr Amir Khattak, the secretary has also directed immediate clearance of CDA’s pending payments to Rawalpindi Waste Management Committee (RWMC).
During the meeting which was held at Commissioner Rawalpindi Office, the Secretary further ordered Capital Development Authority to settle all outstanding dues with Rawalpindi Waste Management Company without further delay.
He also directed strict monitoring to prevent Islamabad-based housing societies from creating waste dumping sites in Rawalpindi’s territory, and ordered for strict action against illegal waste dumping by the housing societies.
It was further directed to dismantle illegal bus stands at Chungi No. 26, with instructions to prepare alternative arrangements for affected transporters.
The Secretary also reviewed plans for new tube wells to address water shortages, stressing the need to utilize monsoon rainfall through storage initiatives. Officials were directed to immediately implement rainwater harvesting projects following the Murree’s water pilot project model, including construction of underground reservoirs in public parks.
“Boundary disputes between Islamabad and Rawalpindi cannot be allowed to compromise public service delivery,” said the Secretary. He emphasized the twin cities were becoming “one integrated urban entity” requiring seamless coordination between the two administrations.
Additional measures decided during the meeting included intensified anti-dengue operations in Social Security and Sabzi Mandi areas, with orders to deploy extra sanitation staff.
Commissioner Amir Khattak confirmed the establishment of permanent joint teams to implement all decisions, highlighting the administrations would now meet weekly to resolve coordination issues.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema, DG RDA Kinza Murtaza, health directors and administration officers from both cities.
