LAHORE, Jul 03 (APP):In a landmark initiative aimed at promoting national unity, religious tolerance, and interfaith as well as inter-sect harmony, a joint delegation of the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee, comprising representatives of different religions and schools of thought, visited Jamia Ashrafia Lahore, where it received a warm welcome from the institution’s administration, faculty and students.
The delegation was led by the Coordinator of the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee and Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, and included representatives of the Christian, Hindu, Shia and Sunni communities. The hosts described the visit as a positive and historic step towards strengthening national cohesion and religious harmony.
Members of the delegation included Bishop Kamran, Ramesh Kumar, Bhagat Lal Khokhar, Allama Muhammad Hussain Akbar, Allama Arif Wahidi, Maulana Ziaullah Shah Bukhari, Maulana Anwar-ul-Haq, Maulana Yousaf Kashmiri, Engineer Usman, Maulana Zahid Mahmood, Hafiz Maqbool Ahmad, Allama Tauqeer Abbas, Allama Salman Naqvi, and Maulana Akbar Asif Mir, along with a large number of prominent religious scholars, faith leaders and intellectuals representing various schools of thought.
During the visit, the delegation and the leadership of Jamia Ashrafia held detailed discussions on promoting interfaith and inter-sect harmony, religious tolerance, mutual respect, national unity and social stability. The participants reaffirmed their commitment to working collectively for the promotion of peace, brotherhood, tolerance and social cohesion across Pakistan.
The participants termed the joint visit a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen national harmony, saying that representatives of different religions and sects coming together on one platform to visit a major religious institution reflected a shared commitment to peace, tolerance and unity.
They expressed hope that similar initiatives under the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee would further strengthen interfaith and inter-sect relations while making a meaningful contribution to promoting peace, national solidarity and mutual respect throughout the country.
The participants noted that this was the first time in Pakistan’s history that leaders representing all major religious communities and schools of thought had jointly visited a prominent religious seminary and received such a warm reception. They congratulated the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee for organising what they described as a historic initiative to foster national unity and religious harmony.
