Injured suspect held after Azizabad encounter; stolen vehicles recovered

KARACHI, Mar 04 (APP):Police have uncovered significant details about an organised car-snatching gang following the arrest of an injured suspect after an exchange of fire within the jurisdiction of Azizabad Police Station.

According to a spokesperson for SSP District Central Dr Muhammad Imran Khan on Wednesday, the suspect, identified as Gulrez Khan, son of Awwal Khan, was apprehended in an injured condition after a shoot-out between police and members of a street criminals’ gang.

Police recovered weapons and a black Toyota Corolla (registration No. BCL-211) from the scene, which during investigation was confirmed to be a snatched vehicle.

During interrogation, important revelations emerged about the gang’s activities. The group was allegedly involved in snatching high-value, newer model vehicles, particularly Toyota Corollas, at gunpoint. After committing the crime, the suspects would change number plates and dump the vehicles at various parking locations.

Investigators said members of the gang were skilled in disabling tracking systems. The vehicles were later transported out of the city, sometimes using women to avoid suspicion. The stolen cars were reportedly sold through handlers in Quetta and various cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for substantial sums.

Police stated that the gang had snatched a 2020 model Corolla (registration No. BST-737) on March 2 within the limits of Azizabad Police Station, which was recovered during the encounter. A case had already been registered in this regard.

Following further interrogation of the arrested suspect, another snatched vehicle a white 2018 model Toyota Corolla (registration No. BPV-766) was recovered. The car had been taken on February 28th from Alamgir Cut Road within the jurisdiction of New Town Police Station, where a separate case had been registered.

Further investigation is under way, while raids are being conducted to apprehend other members of the gang, the spokesperson added.
