HYDERABAD, Jun 18 (APP): A high-level delegation of fisheries and aquaculture experts from Indonesia, accompanied by representatives of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under its “Poverty Alleviation and Inclusive Development Across Rural Sindh (PAIDAR)” program, visited Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam to explore avenues of scientific and technical collaboration in fisheries, aquaculture and rural development.
The visit, organized under UNIDO’s PAIDAR initiative, aimed at promoting sustainable development and improving rural livelihoods through the exchange of knowledge, research experience and technology in critical sectors such as fisheries and aquaculture. The Indonesian delegation included Eko Cahyadi, Koko Kukarcan and Skenda Darja, who visited the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences at SAU.
During their visit, the delegation reviewed academic and research facilities related to fisheries and aquaculture and interacted with faculty members, researchers and students. They discussed key topics such as fish disease management, hatchery operations, breeding techniques, aquaculture value chains and processing technologies.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation Eko Cahyadi expressed appreciation for the university’s facilities and research. He said the work being carried out at SAU in the areas of fish breeding, disease control and processing met international standards. “We are pleased to see such progress and are interested in transforming this academic interaction into a formal partnership in the near future,” he remarked.
Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Syed Ghayasuddin Shah Rashdi welcomed the delegation and said that international interest in SAU’s research activities was encouraging. “We believe in mutual learning. By engaging with global experts, we aim to bring modern aquaculture practices to our local farming communities,” he said.
Chairman of the Department of Parasitology Prof. Dr. Muhammad Bachal Bhutto said the university’s vision went beyond conventional education. “Our goal is to provide field-oriented scientific solutions that respond to regional challenges. The delegation was briefed on our applied research models, innovations and localized approaches to enhance future cooperation,” he added. The visiting experts called for greater collaboration among stakeholders to advance the fisheries, livestock and veterinary sectors in Pakistan.
The UNIDO-PAIDAR team and Indonesian delegation also held technical consultations with university faculty on hatchery systems, fish health management, value addition and sustainable aquaculture. Opportunities for future joint research and development initiatives were also explored.
