MULTAN, Jul 08 (APP):Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment (FOSPA) Fauzia Waqar paid a visit to Nishtar Medical University (NMU) where she held a detailed meeting with VC Dr Mehnaz Khakwani.
The meeting centered around growing concerns regarding incidents of harassment within universities and educational institutions, and the development of effective strategies for prevention and redress.
The discussion was also attended by senior faculty members including Registrar Prof Dr Ahmer Hussain, Dean of Surgery Prof Dr Masood ur Rauf Haraj, Controller of Examinations Prof Dr Azam Khan, Prof Dr Zahra Nazish, and Prof Dr Asghar Javed.
Fauzia Waqar emphasized the importance of establishing and strengthening harassment policies, training committee members, and organizing awareness seminars for students. She highlighted the need for appointing neutral and reputed committee members, promoting codes of conduct, and educating students on legal protections and complaint procedures.
Dr Mehnaz Khakwani briefed the Federal Ombudsperson on the steps already taken by NMU to combat harassment on campus. These include the formation of anti-harassment committees and internal awareness programmes.
A question-and-answer session was also held during the meeting, allowing participants to share views and raise concerns.
