LAYYAH, Jul 04 (APP):In a decisive move to prevent accidents caused by illegal gas cylinders, the Regional Transport Authority intensified its operations across Layyah district on Friday.
Motor Vehicle Examiner (MVE) Ahmad Hassan Bukhari, along with his team, conducted road blockades on MM Road and other key routes, intercepting passenger vehicles using unauthorised gas cylinders.
Several passenger buses, vans and Hiace vehicles were impounded at local police stations after being found fitted with illegal gas cylinders. The transport team removed cylinders from more than 20 vehicles on the spot and issued strict warnings to drivers against reinstalling them in the future.
Speaking to APP, Ahmad Hassan Bukhari said that heavy fines were imposed on drivers lacking route permits, fitness certificates and valid driving licences. “The use of gas cylinders in passenger buses, Hiace vans or high roofs will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he added.
He added that nearly 70 per cent of vehicles had now been cleared of unsafe gas fittings, while action was ongoing against illegal gas refilling points. “Drivers must keep their route permits, driving licences, fitness certificates and all related documents complete and up to date,” he urged.
The Motor Vehicle Examiner warned that strict legal action would continue against those violating transport safety laws. “All passenger vehicles must be equipped with essential safety measures and lifesaving equipment to protect human lives,” he stressed.
Ahmad Hassan Bukhari appealed to the public to immediately report any instances of overcharging, unsafe gas use or other transport-related issues to the authorities.
