IGP visits Dera Ismail Khan; inaugurates driving school, reviews security

Dera Ismail Khan , Jul 30 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, paid a visit to Dera Ismail Khan, where he inaugurated key infrastructure projects and assessed the prevailing security situation in the southern districts of the province.
The IGP began his visit with a high-level security briefing at the Chehkaan Fort, where he was joined by General Officer Commanding of 40th Division Maj-Gen Neknam Mohammad Baig. The meeting focused on prevailing security challenges in Dera, Tank, and Lakki Marwat districts. The GOC outlined the details of ongoing joint operations by police and security forces in the region.
 IGP Hameed stressed the importance of inter-agency coordination in combating terrorism and reiterated his commitment to upgrading police capacity through improved infrastructure and the provision of modern weaponry.
Accompanied by Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera, Syed Ashfaq Anwar, the police chief inaugurated the newly constructed Police Driving School. Upon arrival, he was presented a guard of honour. The IGP inspected the school’s facilities and was briefed on the training curriculum. RPO Anwar informed that the school will not only offer practical driving lessons but also educate citizens on road safety and traffic regulations. The facility is expected to simplify the process of obtaining driving licenses.
The IGP also announced the provision of a virtual driving simulator to modernize training efforts and ensure equal learning opportunities for both men and women. He later distributed commendation awards among officers and personnel who demonstrated outstanding performance, encouraging them to continue serving with dedication and integrity.
Later, IGP Hameed visited Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines, where he was warmly received by senior police officials, including RPO Dera and District Police Officer (DPO) Sahibzada Sajjad Ahmad. He laid a floral wreath at the Police Shuhada Memorial and offered prayers for the departed souls.
During his visit, he also inspected modern weaponry and ammunition deployed in the region for anti-terrorism operations. He was briefed on local capabilities in repairing and customizing police equipment. Officials highlighted the technical skills of local youth who contribute to the maintenance and adaptation of critical police tools across districts.
The IGP held a jirga with religious scholars, peace committee members, and local notables from Dera, Tank, and Lower South Waziristan. Addressing the gathering, he stated that significant developments were underway in law enforcement infrastructure, including the construction of secure police stations and checkposts, the deployment of modern arms, and the implementation of Safe City projects. He urged the local community to stand united with police in safeguarding the region against anti-state elements and working towards lasting peace and prosperity.
Earlier, the police chief chaired a high-level meeting at the RPO Office, where he was briefed on progress in various development projects, including police stations, checkposts, the traffic school, and the Safe City initiative. He directed authorities to expedite infrastructure works and commence all projects within the next 15 days.
Concluding his visit, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed also planted a tree as part of the ongoing plantation campaign.
