ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (APP):The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration detained eight professional beggars during an ongoing crackdown aimed at curbing street begging across the Federal Capital.
The latest operation was carried out in Sector D-12 Markaz and Shalimar, where the detained individuals were shifted to police custody, said the spokesman of ICT administration here.
According to the district administration, the anti-begging drive is being conducted in coordination with law enforcement teams to discourage organized begging groups that often operate in commercial and residential areas. The administration stated that such groups exploit public sympathy, creating inconvenience for residents and visitors in marketplaces, traffic signals, and public spaces.
Officials said that teams are regularly conducting checks in busy sectors, markets, and intersections to identify and remove professional beggars. The administration has directed relevant departments to maintain consistent monitoring and ensure that those involved are dealt with according to the law.
The authorities emphasized that most professional beggars are part of organized networks that use children, women, and persons with disabilities for monetary gain. The campaign also aims to refer genuine cases of need to welfare institutions for proper assistance, separating them from those involved in professional begging activities.
The administration urged citizens to cooperate by avoiding giving money to beggars and by reporting such activities to the helpline or nearby police stations. Officials said public participation is essential to make Islamabad free from organized begging and to ensure that public spaces remain safe and orderly.
The anti-begging operations will continue in different sectors of the capital in the coming days, with a focus on commercial hubs and traffic signals where the presence of beggars is most frequent.
The district administration reaffirmed its commitment to maintain regular monitoring and to take firm action against anyone involved in organized begging networks operating in the federal capital.
