ICRC-LRH conduct successful Mass Casualty Incidents simulation drill

PESHAWAR, Nov 07 (APP):The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in collaboration with Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar and KP health Department, successfully concluded a comprehensive Mass Casualty Incidents simulation drill, showcasing a unified approach to strengthening emergency preparedness and saving lives.
The high-intensity simulation brought together 150 first responders and healthcare professionals and Communities representatives from across the country to practice and refine critical procedures for managing a large-scale emergency.
Commenting on the event, Christoph Sutter, Head of Delegation of the ICRC in Pakistan, said, “today’s Mass Casualty Incident simulation highlights the strength of our partnerships that enable us to respond swiftly and effectively in times of crisis.
In 2025, the ICRC’s health programs reached over 60,000 people through Primary Health Care services, while emergency medical support in Bajaur provided care to 12,000 displaced persons.
Together with our partners, we facilitated 250,000 emergency department consultations in ICRC supported hospitals, trained over 700 first responders and health workers, and distributed 900 lifesaving first responder kits across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and AJK.
These achievements demonstrate the impact of collaboration and our shared commitment to strengthening preparedness, saving lives, and serving those most in need.”
Dr. Abrar Khan, Director LRH Hospital, emphasized the practical value of the exercise.
“This activity is one of the most important for all first responders and health care professionals, whereby following proper procedures, the first responders can save more lives during emergencies,” Dr. Khan stated.
He further underscored the hospital’s unique role, mentioning that LRH is the best place for such activities as it is the only hospital in the country that has responded to the biggest emergency.
“The professional conduct of all the participants was commendable, showing their dedication to mastering life-saving protocols.”
The successful simulation concluded with the distribution of certificates among the participants, formally recognizing their commitment and professionalism in advancing emergency response capacity in the region.
