Honour killing, court awards police remand of three suspects

RAWALPINDI, Jul 27 (APP):A Rawalpindi court has awarded remand of three suspects to police custody in connection with the alleged murder and honor killing of a newlywed woman in Pirwadhai.
Police have arrested eight individuals, including the woman’s husband, her brother, other family members, a gravedigger, a graveyard management official, and a rickshaw driver who reportedly transported her body.
The investigation started secretly by the police after reports of an alleged jirga (tribal customary jury) that was held and attended by both families.
On the other hand, the husband of the woman filed a case under Section 496A, related to kidnapping of her wife on the same day the woman was allegedly suffocated with a pillow.
Earlier, police have secretly collected the crucial information about the grave of the woman which was immediately erased after her burial, and also identified the main culprits involved in the crime.
Police chief, Syed Khalid Hamdani has said that the police have a complete picture of the incident, with all involved individuals identified.
“Once legal requirements are met, comprehensive case details will be shared with the public through the media”, announced the city police officer in a statement.
The court of Judge Qamar Abbas also ordered for the post-mortem examination of the woman’s body, which scheduled for July 28.
