Home secretary, US consul general discusses security cooperation

LAHORE, Jul 09 (APP):US Consul General Kristin K Hawkins called on Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi at his office to discuss the law and order situation and professional capabilities of the province’s security agencies.
During the meeting, Dr Qazi highlighted that Punjab is becoming safer with the help of advanced technology. “We have equipped law enforcement agencies with modern tools and digitised criminal data online for efficient monitoring,” he said.
The secretary informed that the Civil Defense Bomb Disposal Squad is being provided with robots, while payload drones and quadcopters have been supplied for operations in ‘Kacha’ areas. Additionally, 14 modern checkpoints are being established along inter-provincial borders to strengthen security.
Dr Javed emphasised the efforts on prison reforms and rehabilitation of inmates, stating, “We are providing technical training to prisoners to enable their economic self-sufficiency and reintegration into society as productive members.”
“We strictly follow a zero-tolerance policy against terrorists and focus heavily on public awareness to ensure the enforcement of laws,” he added.
US Consul General Kristen K Hawkins expressed optimism about exploring further avenues for cooperation between the two countries in the field of security.
The meeting was attended by additional secretary Internal Security, additional secretary prisons and additional secretary police.
