HYDERABAD, Sep 10 (APP):The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has launched a crackdown against power theft in the HESCO region. According to the information provided by the HESCO spokesperson on Saturday, during the crackdown, raids were conducted in various areas of region including Hyderabad, Qasimabad, Tatta, Umarkot, Badin, MirpurKhas, Sakrand, Nawabshah, Tando Allahyar, Tando Jam, Chammbar, Kotri, Jamshoro, Noriabad, Sehwan, Bhan Syedabad, Sanghar, Qazi Ahmad, Daulatpur, Saeedabad, Tando Adam, Shahdadpur, Matiari, and other areas. During the campaign, a total of 4,690 illegal connections were disconnected, while 15 transformers were confiscated besides recovering 50KV illegal transformer from the Kacha area in Tatta, which was being used to run tube well through stolen electricity. Legal action was initiated in this regard.
The HESCO authorities also recovered outstanding dues of more than 30 million rupees from defaulters and forwarded letters to register FIRs against 106 individuals in the respective police stations. Apart from that 35 teams were actively conducting day and night operations against electricity thieves in the region. The HESCO monitoring cell was also providing progress reports about the operation to the Ministry of Energy.
According to the spokesperson of HESCO, on the orders of the Caretaker Prime Minister, the crackdown against electricity thieves will continue to eliminate electricity theft while the campaign has been intensified for the 100 percent recovery of 169 billion dues.
