Heatwave: Departments in Rawalpindi put on high alert

RAWALPINDI, Jun 10 (APP):The relevant departments in the Rawalpindi Division have been put on high alert on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to cope with any emergency situation in the wake of ongoing heatwave in the province.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, temperature during the heatwave, which will continue till June 13, is expected to remain high by 7 degrees from the normal.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Amir Khattak, in his directive in this regard, called for ensuring the availability of cold drinking water at all public places, markets and bus terminals.
He also directed for availability of necessary medicines for heat stroke at the counters set up in hospitals in this regard.
The commissioner urged the public to adopt precautions for avoiding heat stroke. Children, elderly and patients should be taken care especially as they might suffer from heatwave, he added.
He also requested the people to remain indoors and not venture outside without any important work. In case of any emergency, they should contact NDMA’s Helpline 1129, he added.
Meanwhile, the City Traffic Police Rawalpindi also urged the people to use a cloth or cap, besides taking a bottle of water with them before embarking on a journey.
Motorcyclists must use helmets, while radiators and cooling systems of vehicles should also be checked to avoid any untoward situation due to excessive heat, it added.
The CTP advised the children and elderly to avoid travel in the day. Rescue 1122 or the traffic warden on duty should be informed if anyone fainted and got affected on a road due to the heat, it added.
