Health sector uplift, infrastructure development top new AJK government priorities: Minister

MIRPUR, Oct 6 (APP):AJK Minister for Health Services Dr Mustafa Bashir Abbasi on Tuesday visited the state-run Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College Mirpur and reviewed its academic and administrative affairs, infrastructure needs, ongoing projects and measures to improve medical education and healthcare facilities in the State.
The minister was accompanied by AJK Forest Minister Col. (retd) Waqar Ahmed Noor, AJK Legislative Assembly member Chaudhry Muhammad Razaq and Kashmir Council member Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed. Principal Prof. Dr Faisal Bashir, Medical Superintendent Divisional Headquarters Teaching Hospital Mirpur Prof. Dr Ejaz Ahmed, Vice Principal Prof. Dr Tariq Masood, Director Administration and Forensic Expert Dr Ejaz Mahmood and faculty members received the delegation.
During a detailed briefing, Prof. Dr Faisal Bashir apprised the minister of the college’s academic and administrative affairs, teaching activities, faculty requirements, available facilities, infrastructure, ongoing projects, future priorities and challenges. Dr Mustafa Bashir Abbasi also inspected various departments and reviewed the educational facilities available to students.
The health minister said provision of quality medical education and improved healthcare facilities was among the government’s priorities in line with the vision of AJK Prime Minister Barrister Iftikhar Gilani. He directed the authorities to take effective measures to upgrade infrastructure, expand modern teaching facilities and provide students with a conducive learning environment.
During the visit, the delegation also viewed an educational and scientific exhibition featuring research projects and medical models prepared by students and appreciated their academic and research efforts.
