LAHORE, Jul 24 (APP):Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique announced that the Nawaz Sharif Medical District project will introduce modern reforms to transform the province’s healthcare system.
The statement was made during a meeting of the Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education held on Thursday, where a comprehensive review of the project’s various initiatives was conducted.
The minister emphasised that the Nawaz Sharif Medical District aligns with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision to implement historic and revolutionary steps in the health sector. The project includes the establishment of specialized hospitals, advanced facilities for blood disorders, bone marrow treatment, an Institute of Genetic and Blood Diseases, and orthopedic care. “The main objective is to provide the best health facilities to the people at their doorstep,” Rafique stated, highlighting the project’s focus on accessibility and quality care.
Secretary Azmat Mahmood Khan of the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education revealed plans to establish an international-level nursing institute under the project. Additionally, the initiative will promote gene sequencing in Punjab, marking a significant step toward advanced medical research and treatment.
The meeting was attended by Vice Chancellor of the University of Child Health Sciences Professor Masood Sadiq, Special Secretary Development Zeeshan Shabbir Rana, and Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti. The IDAP team and Dr. Mahmoodul Hassan joined via video link.
