Hazara University students explore WWF model village Jab for eco-learning

ISLAMABAD, Nov 27 (APP):Students and faculty members from the Department of Art & Design, Hazara University Mansehra, visited the WWF Pakistan Model Village Jab in Tehsil Khanpur, District Haripur, as part of an educational and exposure trip focused on sustainable development, nature-based solutions, and community-based conservation.
The WWF Pakistan team briefed the visiting delegation on various ongoing and completed interventions in the model village, including environmental conservation projects, livelihood-improvement programmes, and initiatives to promote eco-tourism in the region. The team highlighted how the organisation is working to protect natural resources while enhancing the socio-economic wellbeing of local communities.

One of the major highlights of the trip was the visit to the Hazara Waterfalls, a scenic site discovered by Hassan Nisar, Founder of Metrix Pakistan, who has been actively contributing to regional tourism, youth development, and local advancement initiatives. WWF Pakistan has recently completed development work at the waterfall to promote eco-friendly tourism, with improved facilities reflecting a balanced approach that safeguards the environment and benefits local residents.
The students and faculty members appreciated WWF Pakistan’s efforts to identify and develop the region’s hidden tourism potential in collaboration with local content creators and vloggers. They noted that such initiatives can significantly boost tourism, generate livelihood opportunities, and uplift the local economy.
The visit concluded with an interactive session in which students shared their views on sustainable tourism, environmental conservation, and the role of creative design in promoting the natural heritage of the region.
