LAHORE, Dec 17 (APP): Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has announced that a state-of-the-art Maryam Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology is being constructed in Gujranwala at a cost of Rs. 10 billion to facilitate residents of the region.
He was chairing a meeting on Wednesday regarding the establishment and development of the institute. Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Azmat Mahmood Khan briefed the meeting on the progress of the project, available resources and future goals.
The health minister said that the Punjab government is committed to providing the best cardiac care facilities to millions of people in the Gujranwala division. He added that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif is personally keen to ensure the provision of modern and quality cardiac treatment for the public. He further stated that work is also underway to improve the Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology, which, along with the new institute, will prove to be a milestone in treating heart diseases.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab government is taking revolutionary steps in the health sector, with the provision of modern medical facilities at the doorsteps of the people as a top priority. A visit to various locations in the city was also conducted to review the proposed site for the institute.
Chairman Punjab Chief Minister’s Advisory Committee on Cardiology Dr. Farqad Alamgir said that the meeting emphasized the importance of human resource training and transparency in administrative affairs.
Secretary Azmat Mahmood Khan stated that the institute would be equipped with modern medical equipment, expert doctors and patient-friendly facilities. He stressed that cooperation among all stakeholders is essential to strengthen the health system, adding that the Maryam Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology would serve as a practical example of this collaboration.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was reiterated that the institute would be developed on modern lines, enabling the people of Gujranwala and adjoining areas to receive quality cardiac treatment locally without having to travel to major cities.
