Green tractor scheme brings mechanized farming boost in Punjab: DC

FAISALABAD, Jul 12 (APP): Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir said that green tractor scheme is a revolutionary step of the Punjab government which has brought mechanized farming boost in the province.
Addressing a tractor distribution ceremony at Ayub Agricultural Research Institute (AARI) here on Saturday, he said that the green tractor scheme had made significant strides in promoting mechanized agriculture in addition to improving economic condition of the farmers.
This scheme is expected to serve as a cornerstone for Pakistan’s growth and prosperity in Fiscal Year 2025–26, he added.
He said that 500,000 Kisan Cards had been issued in the first phase while its 98% recovery has been completed. During this phase, Rs.55 billion was allocated for interest-free agricultural loans out of which 85% amount was utilized for fertilizer purchases.
DC Nadeem Nasir also announced that applications for Phase-II of the Green Tractor Scheme would be accepted in August 2026. In this phase, 10,000 locally manufactured tractors (50 to 65 horsepower) would be provided with a subsidy of Rs 500,000 each, while 10,000 higher horsepower tractors (75 HP and above), both local and imported, would be offered with a subsidy of Rs1 million each.
Earlier, the deputy commissioner also distributed keys of green tractors among 13 farmers and said that these peasants have successfully grown wheat on more than 12.5 acres of their lands in the district.
