LAHORE, Oct 07 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that the adoption of advanced technology to enhance cotton production was the need of the hour.
In her message on World Cotton Day, she said that the global observance of this day underscores the international significance of cotton as a vital crop and a key raw material for the textile industry.
The CM said the Punjab government was extending full support to farmers by providing free machinery for every crop. Through the efforts of agriculture interns, she added, effective measures were being implemented to improve crop yields and promote modern farming practices across the province.
She highlighted that major initiatives, including the Agricultural Graduate Internship Programme, Kisan Card, Green Tractor Scheme, and Super Seeders, had been launched to facilitate and empower farmers.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif added that although cotton production had witnessed a decline in recent years, the Punjab government was making concerted efforts to restore the crop’s productivity and strengthen its role in the province’s agricultural economy.
