LAHORE, Oct 29 (APP):Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Syed Imran Ahmad Shah has said that attempts to push Pakistan into default have failed and pledged that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the country will be transformed into an Asian Tiger’.
Talking to the media after visiting the regional office of Pakistan Baitul Mal here on Wednesday, he said the government had not only averted the risk of default but, through sustained efforts, also revitalised and strengthened Pakistan’s relations with friendly nations, which experienced strain in the past.
Imran Ahmad Shah stressed that the government was determined to lift people above the poverty line and place Pakistan among developed nations. He praised Punjab Regional Director Muhammad Zaheer and his team for their efforts, particularly in women’s empowerment, calling their work commendable. The minister said his ministry, in coordination with the National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), will provide market-oriented training and certification so that boys and girls become productive members of society. He said the government would also facilitate employment opportunities by signing memoranda of understanding (MOUs) both domestically and with foreign countries to ensure trained youth could find work at home and abroad.
About social protection, the minister said the Benazir Income Support Programme continues to provide substantial assistance to vulnerable families and added that the programme was running successfully. He said his mission was to transform welfare into empowerment by enabling people to earn their livelihood through skills instead of relying on assistance.
Responding to questions on economy and public relief, Imran Shah said the government was committed to controlling inflation and providing relief to the public at the earliest.
In response to another question, he said Pakistan’s Armed Forces have always demonstrated exceptional courage and professionalism in defending the nation. He added that their steadfast resolve and operational excellence have earned global recognition and ensured the country’s security and dignity in every challenge.
He termed the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defence cooperation agreement a matter of national pride, saying it symbolises the enduring brotherly relations, mutual confidence, and shared resolve of both countries to promote regional stability and security.
