HYDERABAD, Jul 19 (APP):Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori conducted a detailed visit to various parts of Hyderabad, including Cloth Market and Electronics Market, to assess the damage caused by recent torrential rains that severely affected residents and traders.
Speaking to the media at a local hotel following the visit, the Governor said this was his first opportunity to closely witness the city’s neighborhoods and directly hear the grievances of its people.
Governor Tessori emphasized that he had come to Hyderabad in his capacity as the representative of the federal government, with the aim of reviewing the situation and expressing solidarity with the affected citizens.
He assured that the traders and residents of Hyderabad would not be left alone in this difficult time. He urged those impacted to submit details of their losses to the federal government through their elected Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) to facilitate compensation and financial relief.
The Governor Sindh proposed the formation of a joint committee comprising provincial MPAs and federal MNAs to assess the damages and ensure either tax relief or suitable compensation for the affected.
He added that the federal government would contribute its share and he would make every effort to secure the waiver of federal taxes.
He further stated that the federal government had announced a Rs10 billion development package for Hyderabad, of which Rs 5 billion had already been disbursed. Implementation of the package will be carried out through the Pakistan Infrastructure development Company (PIDCL), under his direct supervision. He claimed that the development work under this package would bring visible improvements across Hyderabad.
Governor Tessori also announced that an IT campus will soon be established in Hyderabad, which is expected to benefit over 50,000 students.
He revealed that IT courses would commence within the next two months, and an additional secretary would be appointed to facilitate coordination between the trader community and the federal government to effectively address civic issues.
Highlighting his firm stance against corruption, the Governor said that wherever corruption is found in development projects, strict accountability will be ensured. He added that he would request Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif to announce a special package for Hyderabad and pay an official visit to the city, during which meeting all trade associations would be given representation.
Expressing dismay over the current state of the city, Governor Sindh noted that Hyderabad today is drastically different from what it was five years ago. He clarified that his visit was not meant to criticize the provincial government, but solely to focus on resolving the people’s problems. While acknowledging limited constitutional powers, he reaffirmed his commitment to serve the public to the best of his ability.
In his concluding remakes , the Governor pledged that Hyderabad would be developed on the model of Islamabad and Lahore. He assured that wherever people or traders have suffered losses, a comprehensive survey would be conducted to ensure full compensation.
