PESHAWAR, Jul 28 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi has emphasized that climate change is not only a global issue but also an urgent local concern, requiring immediate and coordinated efforts. He said that the phenomenon is not merely a scientific problem, but a social, economic, and moral challenge as well.
The Governor was addressing a conference on the challenges of climate change as the chief guest at the Governor House Peshawar on Monday. The event was organized by the National Youth Climate Change Council (NYCCC) and attended by a large number of climate experts, youth activists, and development professionals.
Among the notable participants were NYCCC CEO Muhammad Umair Mufakkar, NDRMF CEO Bilal Anwar, and UNICEF Pakistan’s Climate Officer Ms. Javeria.
Governor Kundi highlighted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is experiencing severe impacts of climate change, including extreme weather events, glacial melting, floods, and forest fires.
He said that such conferences serve as an excellent platform for research, dialogue, and collaborative efforts.
“Climate change is not just an environmental threat it is an economic and societal risk,” he remarked.
“We must adopt a comprehensive strategy for climate resilience, which includes sustainable development planning, transitioning to clean energy, improving disaster preparedness systems, and above all, raising public awareness.”
He stressed the importance of giving voice to the communities most affected by climate change and called on the youth to take an active role in awareness campaigns and contribute to policy-making through knowledge and advocacy.
“This is the defining challenge of our time,” the Governor said. “But it is also an opportunity a chance to move toward a greener, safer, and more sustainable future.”
The conference concluded with the Governor distributing commemorative shields among the participants in recognition of their contributions.
